Chronic Homelessness

Life on the streets is a lonely road to travel. The isolation and social disconnect beats heavy upon the mind, and deeply into the soul. In silent humility, street life- if only for the sake of existing, crawls along its slow and barren journey towards uncertainty. The remnants of hope that may still linger from brighter days now passed can flicker in the eyes of the nameless faces whose voices have been lost to the noise of progress and self-preservation.

But underneath the rough and harsh exterior of homelessness, is a human being; a person who has succumbed to a critical event, illness, or circumstance in their life; and has fallen out of ‘mainstream’ society.

The next time you see someone on the streets that may appear to be experiencing homelessness, stop! See inside the eyes that look out at you; don’t look the other way, or brush them off, or toss some coins to absolve yourself from not doing more.

Consider for a moment that it would carry a world of wealth if, instead of briefly slowing to give up some of your money, you stopped and gave up some of your time.
